NBA legend Pau Gasol brought together leading figures from Spanish sport, entertainment and business at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort in Cádiz from June 12–14 for the second edition of the Gasol Foundation Golf Experience, a 36-hole charity tournament raising funds to prevent childhood obesity.

The Gasol Foundation, which Gasol co-founded with his brother Marc in 2013, says childhood obesity affects one in three children and adolescents in Spain. The foundation’s work centres on four pillars: physical activity, healthy eating, sleep and emotional well-being.

Dinner and Auction

A closing charity dinner brought together institutional representatives, sponsors and participants to highlight the foundation’s decade-long work. Speakers included Isabel Sánchez, secretary general for sport at the Regional Government of Andalusia; Javier Vidal, second vice president of the Provincial Council of Cádiz; and Juan Franco, mayor of La Línea de la Concepción.

Gasol said: “The foundation was born from a shared desire I have with my brother Marc to help children grow up healthier and address one of the main threats to childhood today: childhood obesity. I would like to offer my sincere thanks for all the support we have received from institutions, sponsors, participants and collaborators as we continue to work together to build healthier environments for future generations.”

A charity auction closed the evening, featuring a Masters Tournament souvenir pack presented by 2017 Masters champion Sergio García, gloves signed by two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso, a tennis racket signed by Rafa Nadal and trainers signed by Gasol.

Foundation Mission

Funds raised during the event will support the Gasol Foundation’s programmes focused on physical activity, healthy eating, rest and emotional well-being for children and adolescents across Spain. The foundation has operated since 2013, working through research, programmes with vulnerable families and awareness campaigns.

The second edition at La Hacienda was staged across both of the Andalusia resort’s championship courses, with the event now a fixture on Spain’s charity golf calendar. Peninsula, the global marine energy supplier, signed a collaboration agreement to sponsor the Golf Experience through 2027.
