Country Club of Jackson, Jackson, Mississippi
$6,600,000
Round 2, Round 3, Round 4

Sebastian Munoz fired an 8-under par 64 to kick start his title defense in style, almost holing a wedge on the first hole. Should he succeed he would be the first player to win back-to-back titles in Mississippi.

''I don't know, the energy of this place, I really like it, I just kind of thrive on it.''

But he's not alone Jimmy Walker, Kevin Chappell and Charley Hoffman are tied for the lead alongside him.

The course is soft from recent rain and the greens are running fast making for good scoring on Thursday as sixteen players scored 67 or better.

Walker played bogey-free and fired eight birdies, his best round in over two years. His health and form haven't been the best as he has been coping with Lyme Disease since 2017. His most recent top-10 finish came at the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2018.

"If I keep my allergies in check, I do pretty good. But when I get hit with allergies pretty bad, it really flares up the symptoms I had."

He missed the cut at the U.S. Open due to tendonitis but this may be his week.

"It was really hard to grab a club out of my bag with my right hand. I just had no strength. But I rested a lot last week, played a few nine-hole rounds with some buddies and came in this week with my physio, we've been banging away on it, and it's feeling better."

Chappell's return to golf on a medical extension following microdiscectomy surgery in 2018 was interrupted by the pandemic.

''I hadn't done myself any favors coming back - poor scheduling, poor play, maybe came back a little early. But I kind of feel like I got my feet under me, getting more comfortable being on the road, being away from my family, and so the focus is just enjoying it and playing good golf, and the results will come.''

Hoffman's best season was in 2017 when he reached 20 in the World Rankings and earned a spot on the Presidents Cup team at the age of 40. He recorded just two top-10 finishes last season, is down to 150 in the Rankings and will miss the Masters next month for the first time in six years.

He started his round with nine birdies on Thursday, putting him in contention once more.

"I think I come in with a good game plan. I think on Sunday I may in the past have not tried to execute the same game plan on Sunday, depending on where I am in the lead. That may be why I haven't played as well as I wanted to on Sundays. But on Thursday, the game plan I set up early in the week usually pans out pretty well."
