October 01-04
Country Club of Jackson, Jackson, Mississippi
$6,600,000
Round 1, Round 3, Round 4

Playing in his first Sanderson Farms Championship, Keegan Bradley fired three straight birdies on his back nine and closed with a birdie putt to take a two-shot lead over overnight co-leader Charley Hoffman and J.T. Poston.

Bradley, who won the PGA Championship in his rookie year, has only won once in the last eight years, in the BMW Championship at Aronimink two years ago, and his last top-10 result was his runner-up finish at the Travelers Championship in 2019.

"I had a blast today playing," said Bradley. "It's so fun to be done with the round, done with 36 holes and say, 'Man, that was a fun time.' Sometimes it's not fun at all. What a great day, and I'm bringing a lot to the weekend that I'm happy about."

Kevin Chappell, also tied for the lead after the opening round, fired five birdies on his front nine to reach 12-under before three-putting the 10th and shooting 40 on his back nine. He closed with a 72, five shots behind Bradley.

"I've got as much firepower as I need," said Chappell. "I've got to figure out the bad stuff and limit. I'm physically going to make bad golf swings and hit it in bad places. That's just kind of where my game is at the moment. But I compounded some mistakes out there and let it get out of hand. Those are the things I've got to stop."

Another player making his Sanderson Farms Debut, Sergio Garcia was putting with his eyes closed.

โ€œI feel like it gives me a little more freedom to feel the stroke. Sometimes we get too focused on trying to make it perfect and kind of following the eyes and everything. So this way I just feel it and I just let my natural ability take over instead of telling myself what to do.โ€

He revealed he had been doing it since 2017, the year he won the Masters.

โ€œIt was probably almost four years ago. I would love to putt with my eyes open, but I feel like my stroke is more consistent when I try to forget about it and just feel it. At the end of the day, we all try to find a way to feel comfortable.โ€
