Sergio Garcia back in the winner's circle

Sergio Garcia hadn't won since the 2017 Masters, did not make the FedEx Cup playoffs and fell out of the top 50 in the World Rankings last week for the first time since 2011.


Peter Malnati, who won his only PGA title at the Country Club of Jackson five years ago, set the target with a career-best 63.

Garcia was 20-under after thirteen holes, two shots behind Malnati. He eagled the 14th with a 5-wood from 260 yards to within four feet and won the Sanderson Farms Championship with an 8-iron to 30 inches for birdie on the 18th on Sunday.


"The perfect ending for an amazing week," said Garcia.

"I stood up on 18 and I did what I've been doing all week. I trusted myself. "I aimed down the right side of the fairway and just hit a hard draw - really, really nice drive - and it gave me the ability to have an 8-iron into the green instead of having a 6 or something like that."


Malnati made four birdies on the front nine and started the back nine with three more before making another two for his 63.

''I feel like I won the tournament. I probably won't, but I feel like I did, and it's amazing.''




J.T. Poston, who was tied with Garcia and Cameron Davis for the lead overnight, closed with a 70 to finish third.

Davis made three early bogeys that put him out of contention and tied for sixth place with a 72.
