The U.S. Open takes place at Oakmont in a few weeks’ time and 12 LIV Golfers have already secured their spot at the third major of the year.
Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson are all exempt. They have all won major championships since 2020.
Richard Bland qualifies having won the 2024 U.S. Senior Open, while Tyrrell Hatton and Patrick Reed are in the top 60 of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Elsewhere, Joaquin Niemann, Carlos Ortiz and Jinichiro Kozuma are also in the field for Oakmont.
There are still spots up for grabs for the tournament with final qualifiers taking place next week across ten sites.
Known as “Golf’s Longest Day”, players complete 36 holes over a single day to seal their place at the third major of the year.
Among them, six LIV Golfers will be hoping to make it through the demanding test. But who are they?
Several more LIV Golfers can qualify for the U.S. Open
Graeme McDowell
McDowell won the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, becoming the first European to win the event in 40 years.
He also finished second to Webb Simpson two years later at the Olympic Club, but hasn’t finished in the top ten of the tournament since.
Should he make it through qualifying, it will be McDowell’s 16 appearance at the U.S. Open in his career.
Matt Jones
Matt Jones has played in six U.S. Opens throughout his career, with a high finish of T65 at Torrey Pines in 2021. This was the only time he made the cut at the tournament.
Now a part of the Ripper GC LIV Golf team, Jones will be aiming to make his first major start since the 2022 PGA Championship.
Marc Leishman
Leishman has played in 11 previous U.S. Opens, but hasn’t exactly enjoyed the best of success. Coincidently, his highest finish was a T18 in 2016, held at Oakmont.
The Australian has finished runner up at the Open and secured two top-fives at the Masters, but hasn’t played in a major since the 2022 Open at St Andrews.
Brendan Steele
The last time Oakmont hosted the U.S. Open in 2016, Steele finished in the top-15, his best in the competition.
Since joining the LIV Golf League in 2023, he was won one individual title (Adelaide in 2024) and is currently 48th in the 2025 standings after seven events.
Peter Uihlein
Uihlein has played in only three U.S. Opens since making his debut in 2011, making the cut in 2018.
He made the move to LIV Golf in 2022, but has yet to win an individual title. He did finish 11th in 2023 and 27th last year.
Harold Varner III
Varner has yet to make a cut at any of the three U.S. Opens he has played in. Can he change that should he qualify this year?
The American has enjoyed a consistent 2025 in the LIV Golf League. He finished now lower than 21st across his first six events and occupies 23rd in the standings.
