Hudson Swafford produced an 8-under 64 on Sunday to finish at 23-under and win The American Express for the second time in five years.

“It was a great back nine. The 3-putt on 13 didn’t really faze me at all. Like, I hit a good shot. I was in between clubs and it ran to the back of the green and kind of misread it, the second putt, and just hit a bad shot on 15.

“But other than that it was pretty flawless back nine. I think it was an eagle and five birdies, I believe. So a lot more good than bad. This was definitely a special one, a third win, and about a month ago my father passed away and his birthday was this week, so I know he was following and watching and to get it done, it was awesome.”

He started the day three shots behind overnight leaders Lee Hodges and Paul Barjon and finished two strokes ahead of Tom Hoge who closed with a 68.

“I played really solid most of the way,” said Hoge. “One stretch in there today, 5 through 10, where I didn’t make a couple birdies on some of those easy par-5s.

“But other than that I played really well. It was nice to make a few putts coming in on, what was it, 12 and 17 was a nice one to make. So I’ll take some positives going forward and hopefully keep playing well next week at Torrey.”

Brian Harman (64) and Lanto Griffin (67) tied for third at 20-under alongside Hodges (70).

Barjon closed with a 73 and finished in solo tenth place at 17-under.
