February 18-21
The Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades, California
$9,300,000
Round 2, Round 3, Round 4

Sam Burns started his round with an 18-foot eagle putt at the par-5 first hole, produced four birdies and two bogeys then finished with three consecutive birdies to close at 7-under, his third opening round 64 this season.

"This golf course at times doesn't offer you a lot of opportunities," said Burns. "So I think just with that mindset going in we were just going to take what we could get."

He leads Matthew Fitzpatrick and Max Homa by two shots.

Patrick Cantlay, who led after the opening round at last week's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and finished in a tie for third, is once again in the mix tied in fourth alongside seven other players after a 67.

Dustin Johnson fired four birdies and a bogey to close with a 68.

"You can't ask for a course in better shape," said Johnson. "The greens are perfect. It's firm and fast. This golf course plays really difficult when it's firm and fast. You have to be in the right position or you've got no chance."

Six other players are tied in 12th place with Johnson, among them Brooks Koepka, winner of the Phoenix Management Phoenix Open and Jordan Spieth who hasn't won since 2017 but has been on good form lately and has had the lead or co-lead heading into the final round for the past two weeks.

Rory McIlroy fired two birdies and four bogeys to close with a 73 at T85.

"It was one of those days where it's just as easy to shoot 2 or 3 under as it is to shoot 2 or 3 over," said McIlroy. "There's a couple of good scores out there, but you didn't have to do too much wrong to be hovering around even par and be on the other side of it."

Justin Thomas started his round well with a birdie but struggled greatly, firing three bogeys, three double bogeys and finishing with another birdie to close with a 77 in 117th place.
