Zack Sucher took the outright lead at the mid-point of the Travelers Championship with a second round of 65 at TPC River Highlands.

The American had been in a six-way tie for top spot after his opening 64 but pulled clear on his own after a second day of impressive scoring.

Having finished his first round with four birdies in the last five holes to join the leaders, Sucher started on Friday on the same back nine and kept up his form with an eagle at the 13th and three straight birdies from the 15th.

Just one more birdie and a bogey followed in a level-par second nine but an 11 under par total meant he led by two strokes from Chez Reavie and Keegan Bradley.

Sucher told the PGA Tour website: "(Tomorrow I just want) to give myself more looks, play aggressive off the tee. If you get uphill putts out here, you can roll in a lot."

Bradley eagled the par-four 15th as he and Reavie each produced bogey-free rounds of 66 to nudge ahead of Bronson Burgoon and Ryan Moore, who are both at eight under.

England's Paul Casey was in a large group at seven under which also included Jason Day, whose 63 was the best round of the day.

Tommy Fleetwood was five under alongside Bubba Watson, who won the event for a third time last year.

Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington and Tony Finau were among those to miss the cut.
