Having recently written about how golf brands are championing retro looks and styles from the ’70s and ’90s this golf season, the new offering from Under Armour sticks to what it is good at and in terms of looks and style, stays firmly in the lane they have occupied pretty much since 2013 as we head into the fairer and lighter months.

Under Armour Drive Pro SLs Gold Edition for Summer 2025

Under Armour remains dedicated to the pursuit of golf shoe innovation and excellence.

The new “Gold Edition” Drive Pros are set to glint in the sun as they step onto courses around the UK and Europe. Classic in their modern, clean, crisp style, the addition of flashes of gold to their already successful Drive Pro range will draw attention to the amount of tech and the appliance of science that Under Armour have put into the development of this range. There should also be some hints of gold in the wearers confidence and play if these shoes can deliver on the improved performance and confidence they are marketed to offer.

A flash of golf shoe brilliance

The Drive Pro made it’s debut in 2024 and certainly made an impact in the golf-shoe market and most probably helped Under Armour  achieve it’s status as the UKs leading golf shoe brand (according to Golf Datatech) in 2024.

The “Gold Edition” extends the Drive Pro’s range of both the spiked and SL models in a new gold colourway that, whilst delivering a striking look, emphasises the biomechanically engineered Swing Support System that has made the Driver Pro such a popular shoe amongst golfers.

The Science Bit

At the core of  the Drive Pro range is Under Armour’s  Swing Support System, an innovative and revolutionary three-layer structure within the shoe that has been developed with world-renowned biomechanist, JJ Rivet. This science-backed design ensures a 360-degree foot lockdown, optimising both lateral and medial stability, which when combined with their custom UA HOVR™ foam and Charged Cushioning™ within the shoe’s construction, the foot is cushioned and supported through it’s natural motion throughout the golf swing.

It is this control that increases the efficiency of power and provides the improved performance that UA want the wearer to experience. The traction, stability  and comfort have been scientifically tested and validated as the wearer demonstrates measurable gains in clubhead speed, ball speed and carry distance irrespective of their handicap index.

Under Armour Drive Pro Spikes Gold Edition

Does the science in the Drive Pro shoe really help improve your golf?

The science in UAs golf shoes has always been their USP. The style bit has definitely been advocated thanks to the likes of Jordan Spieth and Maverick McNealy and they have a good track record behind them when it comes to great and consistent golf. McNealy comes into 2025 having secured a first place finish wearing Under Armour Drive Pros at the RSM Classic PGA Tour  event in November.

However, the best current advert for Under Armour in terms of what the right footwear can do for your game is exhibited by new Pro on the block, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen. The Dane has secured two top 10s this year since making the switch to Drive Pro golf shoes.

Okay, how much?

If the addition of flecks of gold on the classic white UA golf shoe with all it’s trademarked in-shoe innovations has you reaching for your wallet then for a pair of the Drive Pro Gold Edition Spikes you are looking to part with approximately £150 (approx. €170) whilst the Drive Pro SLs are around the £130 mark (approx. €150).

Whilst not the cheapest of golf footwear they aren’t the most expensive either, especially when you take into consideration the amount of research and testing that has gone into the development of Drive Pro golf shoes.  If a pair of these shoes can help add some extra yards to your carry, an increase in club head and ball speed, then maybe a pair of these shoes with that little bit of something extra thanks to the gold bits, then maybe they are worth the investment?
