Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, playing in his first PGA Tour event, signed for a second-round 65 to set a new tournament record for the lowest 36-hole score of 129. It had previously been 130, shot four times, including by Davis Riley this week.
The Dane has made thirteen birdies and one eagle, and is the only player in the field bogey-free through two rounds.
“Played great the last two days. I actually think probably played tee to green even better today than I did yesterday. Hit some really, really good iron shots, gave myself a lot of chances and was able to convert a lot of those. No, it’s been two good days. Hopefully try to continue that over the weekend,” said Neergaard-Petersen.
“You know you never expect necessarily to be bogey free through 36. This is certainly a place where if you put the ball in play off the tee and you’re good with your irons, that’s a possibility because you’re going to hit a lot of greens when they’re as soft as they are. That’s pretty much what I’ve done the last two days is just put the ball in play off the tee and then hit some solid iron shots in there.”
Neergaard-Petersen had a decorated amateur career including winning the 2017 Danish Junior Championship and back-to-back victories at the German International Amateur Championship in 2018 and 2019.
He earned three victories on the HotelPlanner Tour last year to earn immediate promotion to the DP World Tour; in six starts on the DP World Tour this year, he has had three top-10 finishes, including one runner-up at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
With rounds of 64-66, American Davis Riley tied his career-low 36-hole score on Tour of 130, previously set at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge which he went on to win by five strokes. He moved up into second place at 14-under with fifteen birdies through 36 holes, tied with Jeremy Paul (T7/-11) and Matt Schmid (T16/-9) for the most in the field.
American Austin Cook carded a 65, his lowest 18-hole score in 16 career rounds at the Puerto Rico Open to move into third place at 13-under. His 36-hole score of 131 marks his lowest on Tour in individual stroke play since the 2020 Shriners Children’s Open (128/finished T2).
PGA Tour rookies William Mouw (67) and Noah Goodwin (66) of the United States, as well as Australian Karl Vilips (67) sit in a three-way tie at 12-under. All three players earned Tour membership for the 2025 season via the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List.
Overnight leader Kevin Roy of the USA followed up his opening 62 with a 1-over 73 after making two birdies and three bogeys and lies in T16 at 9-under.
