Sam Burns signed for a 3-under 68 on Sunday to close with a 17-under, 267 total and win the Valspar Championship.

“You just hope and practice so hard to have that opportunity,” said Burns. “After I had the bunker shot on 18, I just got choked up thinking about that moment and thinking, ‘You wanted to have that opportunity so bad for so long and now you do.’ It was really special for me.”

This first PGA Tour title comes after two near misses in the Vivint Houston Open last fall and the Genesis Invitational at Riviera where Burns held the 54-hole lead and couldn’t convert it.

“Having those past chances that I wasn’t able to convert I think it got me ready for this moment,” said Burns on Sunday.

Burns moves up to 14th in the FedExCup and the top-50 in the World Rankings with this victory.

Burns and Keegan Bradley jointly held the 36- and 54-holes lead and stayed tied through the first twelve holes. Bradley found the water on the par-3 13th however and made a double bogey giving Burns the lead.

Burns made two more birdies as well as two bogeys over the next five holes while Bradley closed with pars and one more bogey at the 15th for a 71 to finish second three shots behind Burns.
