November 05-08
Memorial Park Golf Course, Houston, Texas
$7,000,000
Round 2, Round 3, Round 4

Brandt Snedeker shot 5-under 65 at Memorial Park to take a two shot lead in Houston.

โ€œDrove it great. Around this golf course you have to be in the fairway, otherwise it's going to be a long day for you. Did a great job of that. Made some putts. And the par 5s, birdied every par 5 out there. This course is a long, tough golf course, so to play well you need to take advantage of the scoring holes, which I did a great job of today.โ€

The Houston Open is the first PGA Tour event since March to allow visitors, limited to 2,000 a day.

โ€œI think that's a big reason why I played well today,โ€ said Snedeker. โ€œI love having fans out here. I kind of feed off their energy. It's great to hear some claps and people excited for good shots and some birdies.โ€

Snedeker won the last of his nine PGA Tour titles in 2018.

Jason Day, Scottie Scheffler, Harold Varner III, Carlos Ortiz, Michael Thompson and Cameron Davis are all tied for second place after the first round.

โ€œThe golf course kind of forces you into being patient just because you can't really miss too many greens,โ€ said Scheffler. โ€œAround the greens out here is very, very difficult to get up-and-down and you can get into some spots where you start playing ping pong across these greens.โ€

This event also marks the return of Dustin Johnson who sat out The CJ Cup and the Zozo Championship after testing postitive for the coronavirus. He bogeyed five holes on his front nine and closed with a 72, tied for 63rd place alongside nine other players.

Among them are Brooks Koepka, playing for the second time since his return to competition following injuries; and Jordan Spieth who was 2-under par after the first twelve holes before two bogeys and two double bogeys stopped his momentum.

"Well, 15, 16, 17 are where you can make some birdies, but you can also get into some trouble," said Spieth. "So some risk-reward when you're attacking stuff or whether you are or not on."

Phil Mickelson also suffered through two bogeys and two double bogeys and closed with a 76.
