Memorial Park Golf Course, Houston, Texas
$7,000,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 3

Carlos Ortiz closed with a 5-under 65 on Sunday to win the Vivint Houston Open title, beating Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama after a tight battle.

โ€œIt feels awesome. This is like my second home. There was a bunch of people cheering for me, Latinos and Texans. I'm thankful for all of them,โ€ said Ortiz. This was the first time since March that a limited number of spectators was allowed to attend.

Ortiz started his round one shot behind the overnight leader Sam Burns.

โ€œEvery time you're inside three strokes from the leader, you know you have a good chance,โ€ said Ortiz. โ€œI've been putting myself in those spots quite a bit the last year and I feel like I had what I needed to get it done.โ€

By the turn he had a two-shot lead but could only make par on the first six holes of the back nine and lost it. An eagle chance came at the 16th but he missed his putt and had to settle for birdie, good enough to regain the lead after Johnson and Matsuyama narrowly missed their own putts. A 22-foot birdie putt on the 18th sealed the deal for Ortiz.

Johnson, in his first start since testing positive for Covid-19 and still feeling rusty at the start, rallied from his opening 72 and closed on Sunday with a 65 to finish in second place at 11-under alongside Matsuyama who closed with a 63.

Brooks Koepka, who was the player consultant for Memorial Park's renovation, struggled with a new driver through the first two rounds but rallied and fired back-to-back 65s at the weekend to finish in a tie for fifth place.

Sam Burns fired a 72 and finished in a tie for seventh place alsongside Jason Day who closed with a 71.
