Jin Young Ko is back in the lead after a marathon 31-hole moving day at Old American Golf Club.

“Today was really difficult. I played 31 holes and woke up at 4:50 [a.m. CT] this morning and finished at almost 9 [p.m. CT]. I played all day; it was a long day. But, I had a great round and it was fun.

“I did not want to play early tomorrow morning, so I wanted to finish. We did a great decision.”

She completed her second round in the morning (70) then started her third at 3:42 p.m. Ko shot three birdies and an eagle at the par-4 15th for a bogey-free 66 to take a one shot lead at 14-under into Sunday’s final round.

Ko has held or shared the 54-hole lead six times before in her career and went on to win the tournament on four of those occasions.

“This course is not easy but not too hard because greens are really small, so if I hit the green, middle of the green, I might have the chance for birdie opportunity.”

LPGA Tour rookies Esther Henseleit and Matilda Castren are tied behind Ko at 13-under. Henseleit (64) shot the low score of the third round, matched by Mirim Lee.

Overnight leader Castren, who won her first title at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship in June, fired four birdies and a single bogey for a 3-under 68.

“It’s great to have the experience,” she said of her win at Lake Merced. “This morning, I knew what it was going to be like playing in the final group and being in the lead, so that helped for tomorrow. I know I’ll be a more relaxed and hopefully do the same as Mediheal on Sunday.”

Jeongeun Lee6 closed her round with three consecutive birdies for a 69 and sits in fourth place at 10-under.

“I’m not satisfied with my result,” said Lee6. “I missed a lot of greens, so I didn’t have a lot of birdie chances. But I have one more day. I finished the last three holes really good. I like this position, so I am going to focus on keeping it on the green and then just putting speed. I’m going to try my best.”
