Ben Kohles shot a career-low (in relation to par), bogey-free 9-under 63 to take the lead at 18-under at the Puerto Rico Open on Saturday.
“I couldn’t get much better. I didn’t really leave a whole lot out there. Yeah, was just feeling really good with the putter today. It was funny, I’ve kind of been struggling the last few weeks. You always say it’s close, but you kind of always need something to kind of click or find a little something. Just had a little thought that I’ve kind of been using the last few days and yeah, it really showed the last two days and bled into today, which was awesome.”
The American is coming off three missed cuts and a WD, at the Mexico Open, in his most recent four PGA Tour starts.
Germany’s Matti Schmid, the only non-American in the top-5, shot a 68 for a share of second place at 16-under alongside Jimmy Stanger (67) and Brice Garnett (68).
Second-round leader Joe Highsmith slipped down into a share of fifth place at 15-under after closing a with a 71 and is tied with Erik Barnes who carded a 69.
