2017 RBC Heritage winner Wesley Bryan opened with eight birdies, an eagle at the par-5 4th and one bogey for a 9-under 63 to equal his career-low round on Tour and take the Corales Puntacana Championship lead.
“It was a great time. Got off to a good start, which was nice, but I mean I’ve been hitting it nice leading up to this week. It’s fun to actually go out there and make some birdies and had a couple chip-ins, which was nice as well.
“I feel like I’ve been hitting it nice, it’s just the scores haven’t been amazing and it’s nice to finally see a number that looks pretty good on the scorecard today.”
A three-stroke first-round lead is a tournament record and 63 ties the 18-hole tournament record.
Charley Hoffman’s bogey-free 6-under 66 included a chip-in birdie on his final hole for a share of second place alongside Troy Merritt, Chan Kim, Justin Lower and Parker Coody who completes the all-American top-5.
