Sepp Straka carded a 7-under 65 at Pebble Beach Golf Links to reach 14-under and take a three-shot lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He leads all players this week with 16 birdies through 36 holes.
“Hitting the ball really well early in the round, and then missed a few putts but made some really nice putts, too. So it was just all around a pretty solid day,” said Straka. Those last four, five holes played a little different. Especially playing into the wind, 16, 17 was pretty tough. Yeah, definitely happy I don’t have to play any more holes out there.
“Especially we had zero wind for the first 14 holes, 13 holes, whatever it was. This course, the greens are tiny, but if there’s no wind and you’re in the fairway you can really take advantage of it. But once you pick up a little bit of wind, it’s harder to hit fairways and the greens obviously play a lot smaller.
“The forecast looks pretty rough. I think it’s going to be a lot more challenging. Yeah, looking forward to that challenge.”
The Austrian has won three times on the PGA Tour so far including at the 2025 American Express two weeks ago.
Straka holds the 36-hole lead/co-lead for the second time on Tour following the 2024 RBC Heritage where he finished T5.
He finished No. 27 in the 2024 FedExCup standings, his sixth consecutive season qualifying for the FedExCup playoffs and third straight year advancing to the Tour Championship.
Overnight leader Russell Henley of the United States signed for a 69 at Pebble Beach and moved down into a share of second place at 11-under alongside Australian Cam Davis who shot 68, his best 36-hole position on Tour since the 2022 Travelers Championship, also T2.
Americans Tony Finau (67) and Andrew Novak (bogey-free, 65), both playing Spyglass Hill, are tied in fourth place alongside compatriot Austin Eckroat who shot 67 at Pebble Beach.
Eckroat sits inside the top-5 after 36 holes for the fifth time in his career. In two of the previous four instances, he went on to win (2024 Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, 2024 World Wide Technology Championship).
Also tied in fourth are Korean Tom Kim who recorded a bogey-free 65 at Pebble Beach and England’s Justin Rose who signed for a 69 at Soyglass Hill.
At 20-under, Andrew Novak and Philippe Laffont (Coatue Management) won the Pro-Am portion of the competition by one stroke over Sahith Theegala/Shantanu Narayen and Tony Finau/Ryan Smith.
