Alex Noren fired seven birdies and two bogeys on Sunday to close with a 5-under 67, reach 16-under and win by one shot at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.

This is the Swede’s eleventh DP World Tour title, seven years after he last won at the HNA Open de France and nine years since he first won the Betfred  British Masters.

“It means a lot. It was a great, great week,” said Noren. “I don’t think I’ve played like this for a very long time, and to get it done at the end, a little hiccup on the last, but extremely proud of myself.

“I told Kyle [Morrison, his caddie] earlier this year, ‘We are going to get it. We are going to get into good golf again after kind of a bumpy year’, and we did. The last three starts have been great.

“Super happy and super happy to do it here in Britain. I seem to love British people and British courses. So it’s wonderful here.”

Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard made a single bogey for his 67 and a share of second place at 15-under alongside New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori who opened with a bogey but went on to fire an eagle at the par-5 17th and six birdies for a 65..

Japan’s Keita Nakajima closed with a bogey and recorded a 67 to finish in solo fourth place at 13-under followed in solo fourth at 12-under by England’s Andy Sullivan who made two bogeys and closed with a 68.

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick who held the overnigt lead fired three birdies and five bogeys for a 2-over 74 and finished sixth at 10-under alongside compatriot Marco Penge who made three boges and carded a 72.
