Charley Hull Has High Hopes Of Hitting Green With President Trump

Golf enthusiasts will want to know if Charley Hull will join Donald Trump for a round of golf after their recent encounter.

Charley Hull says she is excited at the prospect of playing a round of golf with former US President Donald Trump after meeting him during a recent state banquet at Windsor Castle.

Hull, currently ranked fifth in the world, attended the dinner alongside six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo as part of a guest list of around 160 people.

The 29-year-old, who recently secured her third LPGA Tour title by beating world number one Jeeno Thitikul on the 18th at the Queen City Championship, revealed that she and Trump bonded over their shared passion for golf.

The POTUS’s love of golf is no secret, and Hull herself has become a popular name in the golf world amongst fans and betting markets over the past year. At the LPGA Black Desert Championship, she went off at around 22/1, while for the PIF London Championship, she was as short as 13/2, which proved her growing status as a genuine contender. Telling the BBC of their interaction with Trump, Hull said, “I had a chat with him last night and he invited me to play”. “He said he’d like to set a game up. He actually reached out to my agent last year about it, but I was heading off on holiday at the time. Now we’re hoping to get something arranged before the end of the year, which would be pretty cool.”

Trump, 79, is the owner of several courses, including Turnberry, Scotland, and has often been seen playing with pro golfers and celebrities, although this clique seems to have somewhat diminished since the former Apprentice star’s taking office in the White House.

Since the pair’s meeting at the State Banquet, Hull has received mixed reactions on social media, with some lauding her positive interaction with the US President, while many more have had less forgiving feedback.

Still, it is Charlie’s Hull prowess on the green that is inarguable. Her recent run of form, capped by victory at the Queen City Championship, has reinforced her reputation as one of Britain’s finest golfing talents.

Trump, himself, has received criticism for his frequent trips to golf courses throughout both of his terms in office. During his first stint as President, he was at one of his own golf clubs on 428 of the 1,461 days he served, meaning he spent close to a third of his presidency at those properties. It’s thought Trump played around 261 rounds in that time, averaging a game roughly every six days.

Only time will tell whether Hull’s and the President’s busy schedules will afford them the time to hit the course together, and if it does happen, will make headlines for sure. Something that, at least, the President will no doubt welcome to pull the focus away from his recent portrayal in the media.
