Garrick Higgo retains solo lead heading into the weekend

Sanderson Farms Championship R2

Garrick Higgo

Garrick Higgo started the day with a share of the lead at the Sanderson Farms Championship and fired eight birdies and two bogeys for a 6-uder 66 to hold on to the solo lead at 13-under.

He made 97 feet, 11 inches of putts in round two after making 98 feet, 3 inches of putts in round one (4-inch difference).

131 ties the South African’s career-low 36-hole total on the PGA Tour (2023 John Deere Classic/T21, 2024 ISCO Championship/63rd).

“I don’t know what worked the best [today], but my tee shots were similar to yesterday, like I kept it in play,” said Higgo. “For me, whenever I think — obviously for everybody else as well, like the more fairways, the more greens I can hit, like I feel like I can take advantage of my putter, give myself a lot of looks, and I’ll make my fair share.

“It’s not too narrow, but the Bermuda rough this week is definitely thick enough where it makes controlling the distance really tough. Obviously when you do hit the fairway, you have a good look. You’re not really hitting that many long irons this week.”

Higgo holds his first 36-hole lead/co-lead, his previous-best second-round position was T2, most recently en route to winning the 2025
Corales Puntacana Championship.

He started this season playing out of the 126-150 category in the 2024 FedExCup Fall standings and made four Korn Ferry Tour starts and two PGA Tour starts before winning the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship.

The two-time PGA Tour winner claimed his first Tour title at the 2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree in his second-ever start. He also owns three DP World Tour victories and two Sunshine Tour wins in his native South Africa. He is one of three lefthanders to win this season (Joe Highsmith/ Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, Brian Harman/Valero Texas Open).

First-round co-leader Eric Cole of the United States has carded 17 birdies through 36 holes, the most by any player in the field. He made two bogeys on Saturday and closed with a 5-under 67 to move down into T2 at 12-under.

Tied alongside Cole is compatriot Taylor Montgomery who started on the back nine and posted a career-best seven consecutive birdies from the 15th en route to a 9-under 63 to tie the most consecutive birdies this season (Adam Hadwin/WM Phoenix Open, Sepp Straka/The Sentry). Ten total birdies marks his most in a single round on Tour.

American PGA Tour rookie Danny Walker made his first cut since the 2025 ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic(T34) in May having missed eight consecutive cuts heading into this week. He fired six birdies and two bogeys on Friday for a 68 and solo fourth place at 11-under.

Kevin Streelman of the USA is the only player bogey-free through 36 holes. Playing in his second start since the 2025 WM Phoenix Open in February after undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus (T57/Procore Championship) he is currently T16 at 7-under.
