Keita Nakajima signed for a 7-under, bogey-free 65 on Saturday to move to the top of the leaderboard at 17-under at the DP World India Championship.
The Japanese player has had past success in India winning the 2024 Hero Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club and finishing second there earlier this year.
“It was a great day,” said Nakajima. “I played with Shane Lowry and I love his swing tempo and his golf style. So I learned from Shane a lot.
“I copied his swing tempo on every shot, that’s why I did great.
“I had two good tournaments in India already so I had confidence playing here. One more day, just keep going.”
England’s Tommy Fleetwood who held the overnight lead after a flawless second round made four birdies and one bogey to close with a 69 and move down into second place at 15-under.
“Final group is always great. You’ve got to enjoy those moments. You don’t know when they’re going to come again. Looking forward to that,” said Fleetwood.
“It’s been a great tournament. Just hopefully go out and enjoy it and play well.”
Ireland’s Shane Lowry, the 18-hole leader, lies in third place at 14-under having made two bogeys and carded another 69.
England’s Alex Fitzpatrick signed for a bogey-free 67 for a share of third place at 13-under alongside Sweden’s Jens Dantorp who made one bogey and shot a 65, New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier whose 67 featured one bogey and American Brian Harman who made two bogeys and recorded a 70.
