The second round of the Bank of Utah Championship was suspended due to darkness at 6:47 p.m. MT. The second round will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday with 47 players yet to complete their round.

Michael Brennan shot an eagle at the par-5 9th as well as five birdies and one bogey to close with a 6-under 65, reach 10-under and take a one shot lead. He led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (3.721) at the time of suspension.

“I’ve been driving the ball really nicely, putting the ball in the fairway a lot, giving myself some good wedge and short iron opportunities,” said Brennan. “I’ve also made some nice mid-range putts the first two rounds, which always great to see those go in.

“But just kind of looking to stay a lot of the same this weekend. Hopefully driver stays hot because if you’re not in the fairway it’s trouble out here. So, yeah, putting the ball in play is important.”

The American is making his third career PGA Tour start and first as a professional. His previous Tour starts as an amateur were at the 2022 Genesis Invitational (MC) and 2023 US Open (MC).

Brennan has won three times on PGA Tour Americas in 2025 and finished No. 1 in the 2025 Fortinet Cup standings to earn fully exempt status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2026. He is also exempt into Final Stage of PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry in December.

He posted twelve top-10s in sixteen starts on PGA Tour Americas in 2025, with his three victories coming in a span of four starts in August and September.

“It’s given me so much great experience playing on the Americas Tour this year and having some success. We’ll see where I end up at the end of today,” added Brennan.

“I feel like I’ll definitely be more prepared for this weekend after having those experiences and I know it’s not the same level, but I am going to try to treat them the exact same and see what happens.”

The last sponsor exemption to win on Tour was Nick Dunlap at the 2024 American Express.

PGA Tour rookie Jackson Suber of the USA made two bogeys and birdied five of his final six holes to record a 67 and move into a share of second place at 9-under. He ranked second in Strokes Gained: Putting (6.062) at the time of suspension. His season was highlighted by a pair of T6 finishes at the Sony Open in Hawaii and Rocket Classic.

Tied alongside him are compatriots Pierceson Coody who carded a bogey-free 64 and Justin Lower who fired an eagle at the par-5 7th and made two bogeys for a 67.

This was Coody’s low 18-hole score on Tour this season. He is playing with conditional status on the PGA Tour in 2025 but finished No. 12 in the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour points list to regain his Tour card in 2026.

Lower has had two top-10 finishes in 25 starts this season (T3/TThe American Express, T8/Zurich Classic of New Orleans).

Defending champion Matt McCarty of the United States started on the back nine and posted a 7-under 28, his second nine-hole score of 29 or better in his last three rounds on Tour (2025 Baycurrent Classic/R4/29). He went on to make one more birdie and two bogeys for a 65 and a share of fifth place at 8-under.

FedExCup Fall Notes

The 2025 Bank of Utah Championship is the fourth event of the FedExCup Fall, a group of seven tournaments played after the Tour Championship that finalizes eligibility for the 2026 PGA Tour Season.

Winners of events during the FedExCup Fall receive the similar benefits of winners of Full-Field Events during the Regular Season, including 500 FedExCup points, Official World Golf Ranking points, a two-year PGA Tour exemption (exempt thru 2026) and invitations to The Sentry, the Players Championship and PGA Championship.

The Aon Next 10 is an eligibility pathway that awards access into Signature Events (outside of The Sentry), recognizing the top 10 players, not otherwise exempt, from the FedExCup standings; Nos. 51-60 in the final FedExCup Fall standings at the conclusion of The RSM Classic will serve as the Aon Next 10 for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational.
