Cameron Young wins second PGA Tour title

The Players Championship R4

Cameron Young

Cameron Young carded carded five birdies and one bogey to close with a 4-under 68 and win The Players Championship by one shot at 13-under.

He led the field in proximity on approach shots (28′ 1″) and scrambling (16 of 21); his 375-yard drive at the 18th was the longest drive on that hole by any player in the ShotLink era (since 2003).

He is the first Players Championship winner to birdie the 17th in each of the final three rounds.

“The stadium atmosphere out there is unbelievable,” said Young. “It’s so loud on 17. The way everything is raised, you just know kind of all eyes are right there on you. So there’s nowhere to hide, and I feel like I stepped up really well and hit a bunch of good shots those last couple holes, so I’m very proud of that.

“This place has had my number the last few years. I’ve never really had a good finish here. And yeah, it is incredibly taxing. Every shot all day long you can get yourself into trouble. There’s no easy ones. There’s no givens. And you’re going to make mistakes.

“So it’s a great test of will, a test of patience and obviously a test of hitting some good shots. So I feel like I did a lot of those things really well this week.”

This was the Canadian 28-year-old’s second win on the PGA Tour in his 104th start (2025 Wyndham Championship) and his second win in his last eleven starts after going winless in his first 93 starts, notching seven runner-up finishes during that span.

Young has now had three consecutive top-10 finishes in the 2026 season (T7/The Genesis Invitational, T3/Arnold Palmer Invitational), his second streak of three consecutive top-10s on Tour (T3/2022 RBC Heritage, T2/2022 Truist Championship, T3/2022 PGA Championship). His four-stroke comeback matched the largest comeback of the 2026 season (4/Chris Gotterup/2026 WM Phoenix Open).

With this win, Young earned an exemption on the PGA Tour through 2031 and three-year exemptions into the Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, US Open and Open Championship.

Matt Fitzpatrick made two bogeys in his final-round 68 and finished runner-up at 12-under, matching the best finish by a player from England at The Players Championship (2nd /Ian Poulter/2009, 2nd /Lee Westwood/2021, 2nd/Tyrrell Hatton/2023, T2/Nick Faldo/1992, T2/Luke Donald/2005, T2/Ian Poulter/2017). This was his first top-three finish on Tour since the 2023 BMW Championship (T2).

American Xander Schauffele fired six birdies and three bogeys for a 69 and earned his third top-three finish at The Players (T2/2018, T2/2024), matching the most top-three finishes without a win (Jeff Maggert, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson, Jim Furyk).

After opening 72-72 and sitting T42 after 36 holes, Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre carded 65-69 on the weekend to finish fourth at 10-under, his second consecutive top-10 finish at The Players Championship (9th/2025). He missed the cut in each of his first two starts (2021, 2024).

36- and 54-hole leader Ludvig Åberg of Sweden closed with a 4-over 76 having made one birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 12th to finish T5 at 9-under and notch his second consecutive top-five finish (T3/Arnold Palmer Invitational). He falls to 1-for-3 when leading/co-leading after 54 holes on Tour.

Making his second start of the 2026 season since returning from back surgery in November, 2021 Players Champion Justin Thomas of the USA finished T8 at 8-under and earned his first top-10 finish on Tour since the 2025 Tour Championship.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) made five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 4th for a 71 andfinished T22 at 5-under, his 27th consecutive top-25 finish on Tour and the second-longest streak since 1983 (38/Tiger Woods).

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland made five birdies as well as double bogeys at the par-4 1st and par-3 13th for a 71 and a T46 finish at even par.
