Ben Lomond Gin Launches Special Edition for The 154th Open

The Official Gin of The Open returns with a limited-edition London Dry release shaped by botanicals foraged from Royal Birkdale’s links.

Ben Lomond Gin, the Official Gin of The Open, has released a limited-edition London Dry gin inspired by Royal Birkdale ahead of The 154th Open in July. The release continues a tradition that began when the brand first partnered with The Open in 2023.

What’s in the Bottle

Distilled in a classic London Dry style and bottled at 43% ABV, the gin is built around botanicals foraged from Royal Birkdale’s links environment, including blackcurrant berries, wild chamomile and sorrel. Those sit alongside a broader botanical bill of juniper, coriander seeds, orris root, cassia bark, Szechuan peppercorns, whole oranges, liquorice root and angelica root.

The brand describes the flavour profile as bright and juniper-forward on the palate, with orange zest, sweet spices and juicy blackcurrant, finishing sweet, fruity and refreshing with a lingering light spice.

Royal Birkdale Connection

Royal Birkdale will host The Open for the 11th time when championship play runs from 16 to 19 July. Ben Lomond says the course’s exposed coastal terrain, salt air and shifting conditions shaped both the choice of foraged botanicals and the character of the finished spirit.

“Each Open Special Edition is designed to celebrate not just the Championship, but the unique landscape and heritage of its host venue,” said Andy Jack, Head of Marketing at Loch Lomond Group.

The bottle itself features a bespoke screen-printed finish with geometric illustrations that combine The Open’s iconography, Royal Birkdale’s natural elements and the botanicals used in the gin.

Where to Buy

Priced at £32 RRP, the Open Special Edition 2026 is available now online and at the newly opened Luss Distillery in Scotland, the home of Ben Lomond Gin, located on the banks of Loch Lomond. The distillery and visitor centre are open daily.

The bottle will also be on sale at Royal Birkdale during Open week. Spectators can visit the Ben Lomond Gin Garden within the hospitality area, which will feature a curated range of serves showcasing the brand’s wider range.
