Jackson Suber takes one-shot lead into final round

RBC Canadian Open R3

Jackson Suber

Jackson Suber shot a 4-under 66 featuring five birdies and one bogey on Saturday to reach 13-under and take a one-shot lead into the final round of the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto. Bud Cauley sits in T3 one back at 12-under having made seven birdies and three bogeys for a 66 with a bogey-free Wyndham Clark for a 63, England’s Tommy Fleetwood (one bogey/67), Brice Garnett (one bogey, one double bogey at the par-4 9th/67) and Sweden’s Jesper Svensson (one bogey, one double bogey at the par -4 17th/68) tied at 11-under.

It is the first time Suber has held the lead after any round on the PGA Tour in his 42nd career start across two seasons, having earned his card via a 20th-place finish on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List.

The 54-hole total of 197 (66-65-66) is a career low. Suber leads the field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green at 11.133 through three rounds and ranks third in both Off the Tee (4.282) and Approach the Green (4.856). He has birdied every par-5 this week, going 6-for-6 on Nos. 1 and 18, the two par-5s on the par-70 layout.

“I only got out of position on 16. Besides that, I felt like I was really in control of my game all day. I was giving myself birdie putts, and if they didn’t go in it was kind of low-stress pars. I feel like I stayed patient with that, and good to see a birdie at the last.

“I’ve just hit good drives [at the par-5s] and I feel like I’ve been in a good spot and iron play seems to be my strength. So just hitting good iron shots into these par-5s and giving myself a good chance to get up-and-down or make a 2-putt.

“The conditions are going to be really rough [tomorrow] and no matter my start, if I start with an eagle or a bogey it’s going to be a tough day and it’s not going to be won on the first probably 9 to 15 holes, so just staying patient.”

In his 2025 rookie campaign, Suber finished the year No. 124 in the FedExCup Fall standings after recording six top-25 finishes and three top-10s in 27 starts. His best finish last season was T6 twice, at the Sony Open in Hawaii and Rocket Classic.

Cauley and Clark in pursuit

Cauley is still searching for his first PGA Tour win in 239 career starts and has had five top-25 finishes this season, with a best of seventh at the RBC Heritage. His 54-hole score of 198 is one shy of a career best he set in 2016.

Clark is also in position to contend Sunday. His bogey-free 63 was the low round of the day and his best score in seven career rounds at TPC Toronto. In his last eleven rounds on Tour, Clark has posted 68 or better 10 times. He enters Sunday off a win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and a third-place finish at the Memorial Tournament making this his third consecutive start in the final or penultimate Sunday pairing.

Fleetwood, tied for third, has sat inside the top-15 after 54 holes in all four of his RBC Canadian Open appearances. He finished runner-up in 2023.

Canadian crowd behind Yellamaraju

Sudarshan Yellamaraju, a PGA Tour rookie from Mississauga, Ontario, is the highest-placed Canadian at 10-under after a third-round 65. He ranks second this week in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green (5.257) and has played the par-5s in 7-under, including an eagle on No. 1 to open Saturday’s round.

“I was just trying to focus as much as I could, like I always do,” he said. “But I was definitely hearing it out there and it felt good, for sure.”

Sunday Stakes

Five of the last six RBC Canadian Open winners entered the final round with at least a share of the 54-hole lead. The leaderboard shifted Saturday: 36-hole leader Ben James, making his professional debut, shot 78 (one birdie, nine bogeys) and dropped to T59.

In the last six events, only one player who held the 54-hole lead/co-lead has gone on to win (J.T. Poston at last week’s Memorial).
