Anna Huang opened with a 6-under-par 67 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the PIF London Championship at Centurion Club.

The 17-year-old Canadian, already a three-time Ladies European Tour winner, made an eagle and five birdies on Thursday. Her only bogey came at the third, her 12th hole of the day.

Australia’s Kelsey Bennett and Austria’s Emma Spitz share second place after rounds of 68, while England’s Charlotte Heath is alone in fourth at 4-under.

Huang builds momentum around the turn

Starting from the 10th tee, Huang birdied the 13th and 16th before making eagle at the par-5 18th. She recovered from her lone dropped shot with successive birdies at the fifth and sixth, then closed with another at the ninth.

“My putting was really good and then I was hitting all the fairways,” Huang said. “I was sticking to my own process and game plan.”

Huang said Centurion’s firmer conditions allowed tee shots to run farther, creating shorter approaches into the par-4s and opportunities to attack the par-5s.

The result came during a season in which Huang has played four of the first five majors and made two cuts. She won the Lalla Meryem Cup in May to become the youngest player to collect three LET titles, surpassing Lydia Ko’s previous age record.

Bennett and Spitz share second place

Bennett, who earned her maiden LET victory earlier this season, made six birdies and one bogey. Her final birdie at the ninth, her closing hole, secured a 5-under 68.

“It was just a solid day, I’m happy to be shooting some good under-par rounds again,” Bennett said. “We just worked out some really good numbers and I hit plenty of good shots and holed plenty of putts.”

Spitz also shot 68, making nine birdies and two double bogeys, including one at her opening hole.

“I kept playing and making lots of birdies, so it was really nice to start like this,” Spitz said. “I really tried to stay in there and take my chances.”

Heath’s 69 contained an eagle, five birdies and three bogeys. Seven players are another shot back in a tie for fifth, including 2025 LET Order of Merit winner Shannon Tan and Ireland’s Aine Donegan.

England’s Gemma Clews made the first hole-in-one of her professional career at the par-3 17th and signed for a 2-under 71.

The $2 million tournament continues on Friday, with the second round beginning at 7.30am local time. The 120-player field will then be reduced to the leading 60 professionals and ties.
