Apes Hill Barbados has entered Golf.com/GOLF magazine Top 100 Golf Resorts in the World for the first time, with its accommodation also singled out by the publication.
Set 1,000 feet above sea level, the golf resort and community of Apes Hill encompass 475 acres of stunning landscape: deep, winding gullies, coral rock formations and rare sand dunes, highlighted by the Scotland District, a rare underwater mountain range that is visible above sea level. Guests can enjoy panoramic vistas of both the Atlantic and Caribbean Oceans as they tee it up. Off-course activities abound, too, like guided hikes through the island’s lush surrounds, tennis and Padel courts, yoga, swimming, and a short shuttle ride to the property’s private beach club
Ron Kirby’s course and Little Apes
Kirby designed the 18-hole, par-71 championship course, which hosts a Staysure Legends Tour event each year. Former Masters champion Ian Woosnam, an Apes Hill ambassador and Barbados resident, hosts the tournament.
“At Augusta, there were moments where you had to pick your line and live with it – no second guessing – Apes Hill gives you that same challenge,” Woosnam said. “There are holes where if you hesitate, you’re in trouble. But if you commit, it’s incredibly rewarding.”
The nine-hole Little Apes par-3 course offers a shorter round. Apes Hill also has an island-green 19th hole and a technology-equipped performance centre.
Hilltop and Courtyard Villas
Golf.com/GOLF singled out Apes Hill for “Best Lodging” in its assessment of accommodation across the Top 100 resorts. The new single-storey, four-bedroom Hilltop Villas sit beside Little Apes and look west across the Caribbean Sea. Three-bedroom Courtyard Villas overlook the 18th fairway. Both villa types have private gardens and pools.
Earlier in this month, Apes Hill appointed British chef Sophie Michell to develop its restaurant and in-villa dining, with plans to use local and resort-grown ingredients. The resort’s environmental work includes a rain catchment reservoir and farm gardens, and has received Audubon International certification.
