Race to Dubai leader Patrick Reed will play the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 12–15, the DP World Tour has announced.
The 36-year-old American will make his eighth appearance at the season-ending tournament on the Earth course as he pursues the Harry Vardon Trophy. A successful finish to his campaign would make him only the second American to become European Number One, following Collin Morikawa in 2021.
Reed moved to the top of the rankings in February after two victories in quick succession. He won January’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic by four shots to claim his fourth DP World Tour title, then added a fifth two weeks later with a two-shot victory at the Qatar Masters.
The 2018 Masters champion has remained at the summit for more than seven months. His shared second place at the Amgen Irish Open in September kept him at number one as the season entered its closing stretch.
McIlroy leads the chase
Rory McIlroy is Reed’s nearest pursuer. The three-time DP World Tour Championship winner is bidding for an eighth Race to Dubai crown, which would draw him level with Colin Montgomerie.
McIlroy successfully defended his Masters title in April. Eugenio Chacarra, US PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai and Open champion Ryan Fox complete the top five in the Race to Dubai.
Chacarra tied for third at the FedEx Open de France last week to retain third place in the rankings.
“Dubai is where the season really got going for me, so it would be pretty cool to finish it there with the Harry Vardon Trophy,” said Reed.
“I’ve played the DP World Tour Championship a bunch of times over the years, so I know the golf course pretty well and what it takes to get it done there. There are some really good players behind me, and that’s what makes the DP World Tour so competitive. You know you’re going to have to play well right to the end.”
