Matt Fitzpatrick Wins 2026 FedEx Open de France by Three Shots

• Matt Fitzpatrick won the 2026 FedEx Open de France by three strokes at 20-under.
• Fitzpatrick closed with a 70 at Le Golf National for his 11th DP World Tour title.
• Ángel Hidalgo finished second at 17-under and qualified for The 155th Open at St Andrews.

Matt Fitzpatrick held off Eugenio Chacarra’s early charge to win the FedEx Open de France by three strokes at Le Golf National on Sunday.

The Englishman closed with a 70 to finish at 20-under and claim his 11th DP World Tour title. Ángel Hidalgo took second at 17-under, earning a place in The 155th Open at St Andrews in 2027.

Chacarra cuts the lead to two

Fitzpatrick began the final round five clear after Saturday’s 65 had taken him to 19-under. Chacarra, who shot 62 on Saturday, birdied three of his first four holes on Sunday and picked up another shot at the 6th.

Fitzpatrick missed an eight-foot birdie putt at the 1st and saved par after his approach finished beneath a tree to the right of the third green. He made another par save at the 5th. Chacarra dropped a shot at the 8th but birdied the 9th to reach 17-under, two behind Fitzpatrick, who had opened with nine straight pars.

Fitzpatrick pulls away at the 13th

After taking a drop from deep rough, he sent his third shot into the water and made double bogey. Fitzpatrick birdied the same hole, his first gain of the day, to reach 20-under.

Kristoffer Reitan birdied the 14th and Tom Vaillant eagled it, but Fitzpatrick saved par before birdieing the 15th. Reitan and Chacarra both dropped shots there, leaving Fitzpatrick five clear. He made only his second bogey of the week at the last.

 “Obviously delighted to get it over the line, it was definitely a battle today,” said Fitzpatrick. “Didn’t have my best stuff for the first 12 holes, there’s a lot of patience but coming down the stretch today, to hit the shots that I did and make the putts I did was special.”

Hidalgo books his St Andrews place

Hidalgo birdied the final hole to finish alone in second and claim the Open qualifying place, which went to the highest-finishing player who made the cut and was not already exempt.

Vaillant also birdied the last to share third place at 15-under with Chacarra, Reitan and fellow Frenchman Matthieu Pavon. Pavon’s 64, which included an eagle hole-out at the 3rd, matched Dan Bradbury for the lowest round of the day.
