Brooks Koepka, who recentley missed two cuts then won last week in Phoenix, seems to be holding on to his form and closed with a 6-under 66 following seven birdies, including three-in-a-row from the 15th to the 17th, unfortunately capped by a bogey at the 18th.
“Usually I can never find my game until The Players. That’s kind of when it starts to feel like it’s coming around,” said Koepka. “But the fact that it’s here a little bit early is nice.”
Koepka is closely followed by Cameron Smith, Billy Horschel and Collin Morikawa at 10-under.

Morikawa fired nine birdies and a single bogey at the par-3 14th and matched Bryson DeChambeau’s score of the tournament with his 64.
DeChambeau’s second round 64 was thirteen shots better than his opening round score and he lies in a tie for 20th at 3-under.
“It’s just a tale of golf. You can have both ends of the stick,” said DeChambeau. “I didn’t play terrible yesterday, I just didn’t get anything going my way, especially on that back nine. Had some bad mistakes and that’s what happened. I made some good putts and good strokes today that just luck went my way today.”
Defending champion Patrick Reed signed for a second 68 and a tie for 8th at 8-under after finding the water at the par-4 5th and 8th and making bogeys.
Rory McIlroy is tied for 13th at 5-under after signing for a 70. He fired seven birdies but unfortunately also made three bogeys and a double-bogeyed the par-5 7th after his bunker shot found the pine straw.
Viktor Hovland ruined an otherwise flawless round with a quadruple bogey 8 at his final hole on the par-4 9th where he went from bunker to pine straw across the green into a bunker back across the green into the woods and took a penalty drop that failed to reach the green before finally holing it and closing with a 69 and is tied for 17th at 4-under.
“It’s mainly the second shot in the bunker that’s a little bitter,” said Hovland. “That’s costing me four shots right there just that second shot. I hit a lot of good shots today and made a lot of putts, so it’s just unfortunate that one terrible shot comes at that time.”
Thru 17 holes, Viktor Hovland was -7 and two shots back of the lead.

On 18, he would quadruple bogey to finish six shots behind the leader.

Jon Rahm struggled with his short game and is even par at T43 after following up his opening 68 with a 76 on Friday.
World Number 1 Dustin Johnson followed up his opening 77 with a 69 and lies thirteen shots behind Koepka at 2-over.
