American Keith Mitchell followed up his career low 62 with a 64 on Friday to reach 18-under taking his lead of the CJ Cup @ Summit to five shots. His total of 126 is five shot better than his previous best 36-hole score on the PGA Tour.

“I’m definitely excited and pleased. I spent a lot of time in the last few days leading up to this tournament working hard on my game and it’s showing. I’m very thankful for that. Just shows you that hard work pays off as long as you’re doing the right things. My putter’s definitely been nice and my speed has been a lot better this week. If those two things stay through this weekend, hopefully I can keep hitting in some quality shots and capitalizing.”

“Happiest with my putting and my approach to putting. Disappointed in the only bad shots I feel like I’ve hit this week are shots where I wasn’t certain where to hit them on the green. It’s a new golf course, none of us have ever played it, so if you have a tucked pin, well, if you miss it over here, is it okay or is it not okay.
“It was kind of the case on 10 today where I wasn’t really sure, I was kind of between clubs and just never committed to hitting a proper shot and flared it out to the right, and unfortunately that led over to the bad swing on 11. But you’re going to make bad swings and you just don’t want to make bad swings that are your own fault. Unfortunately, those two are my own fault. But if I’m sitting here saying I’m 18 under with only two bad swings, I’m going to take it every time.”

Behind him at 13-under are South Korean Seonghyeon Kim (63), Americans Jordan Spieth (65) and Harry Higgs (67) and Australia’s Adam Scott who followed three birdies on the front nine with back-to-back birdies, four birdies and two eagles at the par-5s 14th and 18th for a 63.
“I’ve been playing well and, you know, you can’t expect a finish like that, but I’m going to take it. I hit a lot of shots close and that made light work with the putter,” said Scott. “You know, kind of put myself in contention. I mean, I’m a long way back still, but 36 holes to go, I like where I’m at, moving in the right direction. I’d love to have a nice solid day tomorrow.
“I felt like after the couple bogeys, I needed to just play aggressive and I went driver off the tee at 14, which is maybe unusual to say for a par-5, but a lot of guys are not hitting driver. I just thought, well, if I want to have a chance at this tournament, I’ve got to probably hit one up there. Hit an iron on the green close and make an eagle and that’s what I did. I hit a 6-iron in and it rolled down to a couple of feet.
“Then on 18 I hit a poor drive actually, hung it out to the right in a bunker, but I had a good yardage and I had a good lie and I hit a 5-iron, got it online and finished about five feet from the hole, so I can handle those eagle putts.
“Hopefully that wasn’t all the wind in my sail. There’s a chance you can take advantage of the front nine, so teeing off tomorrow, it will be fun to make some birdies early and kind of put myself in the mix and kind of close the gap a little.”

Scores continue to be low on average, only Kevin Streelman is over par for the event, but overnight leader Robert Streb signed for a 72 on Friday, eleven shots more than in his opening round
Mexico’s Abraham Ancer made an albatross at the par-5 14th, holing out from the fairway, and signed for a bogey-free 65 for a share of nineteeth place alongside eight other players including an equally bogey-free Rory McIlroy (67).
“So we were actually in between clubs to see if we wanted to fly it on the green or just kind of hit a lower one and just roll it up and use the slope. Thankfully we went with the shorter club and just tried to roll it up there and just use the slope.
“You can’t really see anything, so I hit it kind of where I was looking and I felt like it was a good strike. I was like, hopefully it’s going to be somewhere around the green. It’s nice to see that it did exactly what we hoped to. We couldn’t see, there was only a couple people behind the green. They yelled, but it could have been just close to it, so I didn’t know if it went in or not until they called it in on the radio and they confirmed it.
“Yeah, that’s my first double eagle on Tour. Pretty cool.”
