Ewen Ferguson held on to his lead in the ISPS Handa World Invitational, carding a level par 70 at Massereene Golf Club to start the weekend at 9-under.

“I missed a couple of putts that I had been making yesterday,” said the Scot. “They were good putts but kind of lipping out and yesterday they were kind of lipping in.

“You walk onto the next tee and when they lip in you feel amazing, and (when) you walk onto the next tee and they have just missed you feel a bit flatter. It was still a good day overall.”

“I was just trying to play my best and do what I could do,” he went on. “I think level par is still a decent score.

“I will just try to have fun (on day three) and try to get myself in contention. Being in contention is great fun and if you perform under pressure it’s a really good feeling. I’ve put myself in a good position again and I will see what I can do.”

Spain’s Borja Virto, playing at Galgorm, vied for the lead and briefly held it before closing with a 67 and second place one shot behind Ferguson.

Italian amateur Filippo Celli also carded a 67 for a share of third place at 7-under alongside Sweden’s Felix Palson.

Scotland’s Connor Syme lies in solo fifth place at 6-under after carding a 68.

The event this week is co-sponsored by the DP World Tour, the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour with separate male and female tournaments played on the same two courses for equal prize funds.
