Jordan Smith carded a bogey-free 9-under 62 to take a one-shot lead in the Portugal Masters.
“Anything like that you’re over the moon with. I’m really happy with the way I played. I’ve been under the weather all week,” said the Englishman.
“Not been feeling my best, they say beware the injured golfer. Considering my prep hasn’t been the best, I’m over the moon with it.”

His round started on the back nine and featured seven birdies and an eagle putt from 30 feet at the par-5 5th.
“The three wood into the par five that set up the eagle or the seven iron on 13 that I hit to two feet, those were probably my highlights. I holed a lot of putts and did everything right.
“I really found out the greens today. They’ve been a lot softer and slower than in previous years, managed to find a couple of 30 and 40 footers out there, which helps. That’s the difference compared to previous years.”
Smith has had a good year, finishing second twice. A win this week could help him move into the top-10 on the DP World Tour Rankings where he is currently 14th.
