South African Jayden Schaper fired five birdies and two bogeys for a 3-under 67 to reach 16-under and move to the top of the leaderboard at the Alfred Dunhill Championship while compatriot and defending champion Shaun Norris signed for a bogey-free 62 featuring an eagle at the par-5 8th and a bogey to join him in a playoff.

Norris parred the first extra hole while Schaper made an eagle to win his first DP World Tour title.

“It’s just so special,” said Schaper, “it’s been so close the last few weeks and probably the last couple of years. It’s a dream come true and it’s prayers answered.

“To be in SA, playing in an event like this and obviously this week being close to home as well, it’s just so cool.

“You obviously travel a lot for golf throughout the year and you don’t really see your friends and family that much so to be able to do this and share this moment with them, it’s pretty cool.

“If you look at the names on the trophy, it’s something you want to win. In 2020 I had the lead going down the back nine and it didn’t go my way but to come and to be standing here now, it’s incredible.”

Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra who held the 36-hole lead made three birdies, a bogey and a double bogey at the par-3 5th for a final-round 70 and solo third place at 15-under.

South Africans Oliver Bekker, Christiaan Burke and Louis Oosthuizen, the 2023-24 champion, tied for fourth place at 13-under.

Bekker double bogeyed at the par-3 2nd and closed with a 68, Burke made one bogey for a 67 and Oosthuizen shot a bogey-free 66.
