Aphrodite Hills Resort Introduces Robotic Mowing in Cyprus First

Nine battery-powered Husqvarna robots are now cutting PGA National Cyprus, steered by satellite boundaries, with the greenkeeping team freed for detailed course preparation.

  • The resort says it is the first golf resort in Cyprus to use robotic mowing.

Aphrodite Hills Resort has put robots to work on its Cabell B. Robinson-designed championship course, with nine Husqvarna mowers installed this month at the home of PGA National Cyprus. The resort says no other golf resort on the island uses the technology.

The fleet comprises two CEORA 546 EPOS units and seven Automower 580L EPOS units. All nine are battery-powered, produce no direct exhaust emissions while running and operate quietly. That should mean less disturbance for golfers, guests staying on the 234-hectare property and local wildlife than the fuel-powered machinery they replace for routine mowing.

How the robots work

Both models use Husqvarna’s satellite-based EPOS system, which keeps each mower within virtual boundaries rather than physical guide wires. The greenkeeping team can change mowing areas and schedules to suit the course and set temporary exclusion zones to keep the machines away from ground under maintenance or renovation. The robots can also be monitored and controlled remotely.

Regular, precise cutting is intended to keep turf presentation consistent, while handing the repetitive work to the machines leaves staff free for specialist tasks.

“These mowers will help us reduce fuel use and noise from routine mowing, giving our greenkeeping team more time for work that requires their skills and experience,” said course superintendent David Blair. “Following the completion of our second phase of course upgrades, this is another important investment in the quality and long-term care of PGA National Cyprus.”

Husqvarna says its golf course mowers and maintenance equipment are used at more than 1,700 courses worldwide.

“Combining CEORA and Automower technology will allow the team to tailor mowing to different areas of the course, with precise cutting and flexible scheduling,” said Fotis Raptis, head of Husqvarna Group at Pantelis Papadopoulos.

Part of a wider spend

The mowers are the latest addition to a multi-year investment programme at the resort near Paphos. Every bunker on the course is being rebuilt in four phases, a new Starter Hut was added by the first tee, and the 2025 Team Cup was played amid that work.

Last month the resort opened its PGA National Golf Academy, which has a 28-bay TrackMan Range, two indoor coaching studios, PLATFORM Golf’s TrueBreak putting system, SAM PuttLab and a SYNLawn TeeStrike+ teeline that the resort describes as Europe’s longest continuous artificial teeline. Tennis and padel facilities at The Racket Club have also been upgraded, and the hotel, restaurants and leisure facilities are being refurbished.
