"It was a tough grind out there. The wind was really tricky today getting the wind right and I had a few times I got frustrated, because I didn't quite time it right and had some gusts and the wind switched directions, which led to that double on No. 5.

"But I hung in there really well, that wedge shot on 14 was really tough one getting the wind right there as well. So when I walked up and saw that I was pretty close to pin high there I was really happy. And to roll that putt in was great."

Victory did not come easily, the overnight co-leader is one of seven players who held or shared the lead on Sunday including Jordan Spieth (USA) who led by two after the 14th but in the end closed with a 69 for second place.

"I'll look back and kick myself for not winning this tournament just having the lead and looking back at where the pins were on the last four holes and say, you know, there's 1- or 2-under there and if I go 1-under I think I'm in a playoff and 2 -- so you get a birdie on 15, 16 or 17 then I can birdie the 18th to win. So that's where I'll be, but certainly if you told me I would have the lead on Sunday on the last Thursday I would have said I'll take that.

"So played well, tempo got a little off on the driver as kind of nerves were up and such. I've driven the ball really well the whole week, and just kind of started missing some contact. So I'll probably dissect that a little bit into next week and try and improve."

Beau Hossler (USA) started the day with a share of the lead but closed with a 71 to finish in solo third at 16-under followed by Troy Merritt (USA) and Patrick Cantlay (USA) in fourth at 15-under.

Matt Fitzpatrick (ENG) carded a 68 to tie for sixth at 14-under alongsde overnight co-leader Andrew Putnam (USA, 73) and Joel Dahmen (USA, 72).
