World No. 1 and FedExCup leader Scottie Scheffler fired six birdies and three bogeys to close with a 67, reach 15-under and win the BMW Championship by one shot.
The American won his 18th PGA Tour win in his 148th start at the age of 29. He moves to T46 on the all-time wins list, tied with Julius Boros, Jim Ferrier, Dutch Harrison and Nick Price.
“It was a tough day out there. The greens got really tough to putt there towards the end, and it was a challenging day,” said Scheffler.
“I was starting four shots back but got myself into the tournament pretty quickly there on the front nine and did a lot of good stuff out there and would have liked to have had a few less mistakes, but overall great battle all the way through. Did a good job of staying patient and executing when we needed to.”
This is his second season with five or more wins (2024/7, 2025/The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, PGA Championship, the Memorial Tournament, the Open Championship, BMW Championship). He becomes the first player since Tiger Woods (2005-2007) to record five or more wins in back-to-back seasons.
Scheffler has finished inside the top 25 in all his eighteen starts this season, with a season-high fifteen top-10 finishes (including 13 straight). His last finish outside the top 10 was at The Players Championship (T20) in March.
He enters the Tour Championship No. 1 in the FedExCup standings for the fourth consecutive year as he attempts to become the first back-to-back FedExCup champion.
Robert MacIntyre started the day with a four-shot lead but made three bogeys on the front nine as well as one more and one single birdie on the back nine to close with a 73 and finish runner-up for the third time in 76 starts.
“I got off to an absolutely horrific start,” said the Scot. “I just expected jumpers on 1 and 2. 1, it’s come out dead and then it’s got a massive mud ball just short of the green. Hard to control the chip. But I just felt great going out today. I wasn’t even expecting to be over par, to be honest. I was really expecting to go out there, foot down, and perform the way I have the last couple days.
“My golf ball was going miles today. I don’t know why. I need to work that out. But when I got the game back in somewhat of a shape, I went over the back of the par-3s. I feel I’ve hit good shots, and I’ve gone miles.”
American Maverick McNealy closed with a bogey-free 66 to finish third at 11-under and advances to the Tour Championship for the first time in his sixth season on Tour.
England’s Tommy Fleetwood fired four birdies and one bogey for a share of fourth place at 10-under, earning his sixth top-five finish of the season, second only to Scheffler’s ten. He recorded this 44th top-10 finish in his 163rd start, the most of any player without a win since 1983.
2024 BMW Championship runner-up Sam Burns of the USA made three bogeys and closed with a 67 for his share of fourth place.
