Cameron Young started the day with a five-shot lead and fired four birdies and two bogeys for a 70 to take a six-stroke lead at 15-under into the final day at the Cadillac Championship.
He leads the field in Birdies (18) and Scrambling (15 of 18).
“I think today was kind of a good test run of how tomorrow will be. I’m sure it will not be as easy as I want it to be. Sounds like the weather’s not going to be great. It will be a fight from the beginning and just looking to execute the way that I did for the most part today. Just keep it in front of me and try to make some putts.
“If you were out in the morning either of the last two days I feel like it was pretty calm. Today it definitely was blowing. I feel like it was blowing harder earlier and then really picked up as we got to 10, 12, 13, in there, it was blowing pretty good.
“Especially when it’s straight across. That’s not as much of an issue with tee shots, but then when it’s blowing this hard straight across, 10 percent hurt or 10 percent help can make a huge difference in the yardage. So you have to be really intentional about what shot shape you’re playing and what number you pick, just because the wind does fluctuate and even if it seems straight off the right or straight off the left those little switches to a little help or a little hurt can make a huge difference in how far the ball will go.”
The American matched the largest 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour this season (6 strokes: Justin Rose/Farmers Insurance Open/Won, Jacob Bridgeman/The Genesis Invitational).
Young holds his third 54-hole lead/co-lead on Tour and second this season. He is 1-for-2 to date in converting to victory (2025 Wyndham Championship/Won; 2026 Masters Tournament/T3).
The 28-year-old seeks his third career PGA Tour victory in his 107th start. With a win on Sunday he would become the second wire-to-wire winner this season (Justin Rose/Farmers Insurance Open).
Young is making his ninth start of the season at the Cadillac Championship and has had four top-10 finishes: T7/The Genesis Invitational, T3/Arnold Palmer Invitational, Won/The Players Championship, T3/Masters Tournament.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler carded five birdies and two bogeys to post a 69 and move into T2 at 9-under. The largest come-from-behind win of his career was 5 strokes at the 2024 Players Championship.
“On this golf course it’s tough to get it really close to the hole so you’re stuck with a lot of 15, 20-footers. On this golf course those are challenging. You get some there’s a lot of cross the slope and the grain don’t necessarily match so it can be challenging on judging whether or not the grain is going to pull it or if the slope is going to counteract it. Then you add wind. It’s a tough combination. I feel like I hit a lot of good putts this week and just continue to do that over the course of tomorrow,” said the American.
Scheffler is in search of his 21st win, which would move him to T32 on the PGA Tour’s all-time wins list (others: Davis Love III, Willie MacFarlane, Lanny Wadkins, Craig Wood). He entered the week with 28 straight top-25 finishes on Tour (last finish outside the top 25: 2024 BMW Championship/T33).
South Korean Si Woo Kim shares second place having made five birdies and two bogeys for a 69. He is making his 91st start since the most recent of his four PGA Tour victories (2023 Sony Open in Hawaii) and has three top-3 finishes this season (T2/Farmers Insurance Open, T3/WM Phoenix Open, 3rd/RBC Heritage).
Coming off a career-best runner-up finish at last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans (with partner Kris Ventura), rookie Kristoffer Reitan of Norway also lies in T2. He was the last man in the field after Jake Knapp withdrew prior to the first round.
England’s Alex Fitzpatrick moved down into T16 at 4-under having made two birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 3rd.
