Callaway’s carbon chassis drivers prove a deserving headline act

Three new drivers benefit from massive weight reduction in the centre of the clubhead

While Callaway will be hoping the new Paradym range strikes a chord with golfers across the board – drivers, fairways, hybrids and irons – there is no doubt that the most eye-catching developments have come in the big stick.

The all-new Paradym drivers are undeniably a game changer for Callaway and the 360-degree carbon composite chassis is like nothing we have seen before.

Callaway has created two forms of carbon composite with the ultra-thin triaxial carbon forming the top half of the chassis while woven forged carbon makes up the sole. It has the advantage of being moulded into various thicknesses/shapes to enable the club designers to tick all the other required boxes – aerodynamics etc.

The net sum gains are considerable, most noticeably in terms of saving weight. The new chassis is 44% lighter than its titanium predecessor while no quarter is given to stability.

It represents a huge shift away from what Callaway did with the Rogue series, launched in 2018 and then updated again last year.

But the California-based golf manufacturer has stuck with the three-pronged driver range approach – standard (medium-good players), X (high handicappers/draw bias) and Triple Diamond (elite players/smaller head).

The standard Paradym Driver’s stand-out feature is the adjustable perimeter weighting at the rear of the club. For those who struggle with a slice, you can slide the 15g weight towards draw to counteract your shot shape. Callaway claims an average of 12 yards of shot shape correction and, if that is even close to being right, it could help revolutionise certain people’s games.

The Paradym X is designed for players who crave all the forgiveness technology affords them while 5g of weight has been added to the rear to aid launch.

The Triple Diamond (TD) has a slighty smaller head (450cc) and comes with an adjustable 14g weight which can be moved to the front for those who want less spin and maximum workability. It is the club we will see Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele use on tour this year.
