The Aramco Team Series is travelling to the vibrant city of Seoul for the second leg of the five-part global event series, as the Ladies European Tour (LET) debuts in South Korea from 10-12 May.
Set against the idyllic backdrop of the Bukhansan Mountain and just thirty minutes from the city, the New Korea Country Club will be opening its doors to the public for the first time in 38 years to host the $1M prize-funded event, offering the spectators a much-anticipated glimpse at the highly sought-after members’ club.
The tournament will make its mark in Seoul as the first and only event in the world where an amateur contributes to the final score, with 36 teams — each comprising three professionals and one amateur — competing to win the team competition before the professionals battle it out on the final day for the individual title.
England’s Charley Hull is just one of the headline golfers teeing it up at the New Korea Country Club next week.
A major player on the world stage, South Korea’s prominence in women’s golf is indisputable, with the nation securing eight of the last 15 U.S. Women’s Open titles, whilst also making up 15 of the top 50 of the current Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
For Hull, competing in a new location for both the series and LET is a great opportunity to showcase the tour to the world’s women’s golf powerhouse.
“Korea has produced some incredible women’s golfers who are consistently performing at the top. Having the LET and Aramco Team Series make that move to bring us to Korea will be a fantastic chance for us to show all the avid golf fans what makes this series so unique and showcase the talent who play across it.”
Hull achieved a career-high World No. 7 ranking earlier this year following an impressive season on the greens. The Briton enters the second round of the series with an added incentive to claim the individual title, having narrowly missed out in Tampa, where Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling reigned supreme.
“My game has been in great shape this season which has helped my confidence both on and off the course. Last time out in Tampa I came close, but I’m determined to go one better in Korea. It would be great to claim the first ever LET win in the country and give myself momentum ahead of a big year.”
Hull will be joined in the field by South Korea’s very own Hyo-Joo Kim and United States’ Danielle Kang.
For World No. 9 and Amundi Evian Championship winner, Hyo-Joo Kim, playing in Seoul as part of the LET provides a major source of motivation to clinch her first Aramco Team Series title.
Hyo-Joo Kim said: “I’ve heard from those on Tour how special Aramco Team Series events are and how they are set up like a Major. As soon as I heard the series was heading to Korea for the first time there was no doubt that I would be competing.
“The unique format of the event excites me; I’ve never played in a tournament quite like it. I’m looking forward to competing with some of my fellow LPGA players here on Korean soil, and exciting the passionate crowds.”
LPGA star and 2017 PGA Championship winner, Danielle Kang, is on the hunt for her first win since 2022. The Major winner is no stranger to the city, sharing a deep connection with the country thanks to her Korean heritage.
Kang said: “I’m thrilled to be participating in the Aramco Team Series in Korea. I absolutely love the team aspect of this series and can’t wait to play alongside great field of golfers from both the LPGA and LET. I am very thankful for this opportunity and excited to compete in Korea.”
