LIV Golf Virginia 2025: Everything you need to know

The eighth event of the 2025 LIV Golf season takes place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club this week

LIV Golf Virginia is the eighth event of the 2025 season and comes just a week before the U.S. Open.

This will give those who are in the field at Oakmont ample chance to sharpen their game ahead of the third major championship of 2025.

In 2024, the event was held at the Greenbrier in West Virginia, but the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club takes over hosting duties this year.

After this event, there are only six tournaments remaining of the current season. Joaquin Niemann tops the individual standings after claiming victory in Adelaide, Singapore and Mexico.

Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm aren’t far behind, however. The Chilean will need a marked improvement on his T20 finish in Korea last time out to maintain his advantage.

Legion XIII lead the way in the team standings and it will take something impressive to stop the Rahm-led outfit from winning the title.

Elsewhere, Jose Ballester is LIV Golf’s newest signing. The 2024 U.S. Amateur champion will join Fireballs GC – led by Sergio Garcia – and he makes his professional debut this week.

All things considered, it certainly promises to be another exciting tournament on the breakaway circuit.

Course details: Robert Trent Jones Golf Club

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club has a rich history in the game. Opened in 1991, the par-72, 7,425 yard course has hosted four President Cups (1994, 1996, 2000 and 2005), the Solheim Cup in 2024 and the 2015 Quicken Loans National on the PGA Tour.

The club can even count on Barack Obama as a member and the players look set to face a stern test in Virginia this week.

Hailed as Jones’ “masterpiece”, the famed architect also said this about his crown jewel: “The terraine is aesthetically perfect. I don’t think we could have done anything better anywhere.”

Lake Manassas offers excellent views throughout the course, but water doesn’t really come into play until the 11th. Players will have to hit over the lake to reach the green.

The green on the final hole is on the shore of the lake, meaning players will have to be accurate with their approach shots to the 18th.

LIV Golf Virginia 2025: Format and prize fund

LIV Golf Virginia will be played over 54 holes across three days, with a shotgun start each day and no cut.

Every player in a team competes in two competitions simultaneously – individual and team – with each stroke counting in the individual event. Whereas only the combined scores of the team’s top three players count for the opening two rounds.

All four scores count in the final round of each event.

There is a $25m prize fund on offer. $20m is assigned to the individual competition, with $5m going towards the team event.

The winner will take home a $4m share, with last place earning $50,000. In the team event, £3m goes to the winning foursome as the second and third place finishers win $1.5m and $500,000 respectively.

How to watch LIV Golf Virginia

Viewers in the US can watch all of the action on Fox Sports. Those in the UK will now be able to watch the entire 2025 season on ITVX due to the new broadcasting deal that was agreed in February.
