Fortinet Championship 2021 R4
September 16-19
Silverado Resort and Spa North, Napa, California
$7,000,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 3

Estimated reading time: 10 minutes

Max Homa produced six birdies, an eagle at the par-4 12th, holing out from the rough from 95 yards, and a single bogey to close with a 65. He won the Fortinet Championship by one shot at 19-under, his second win this year following his win at the Genesis Invitational in February and his third overall on the PGA Tour.

Fortinet Championship 2021 R4

“I had full control today. I had a really good warm-up, hit my wedges really well. The only bogey I made was going kind of right at it so just felt like I had good control. It just feels really nice.

Fortinet Championship 2021 R4

"I've been playing the back nine really well all week, just plugging along, picking up maybe a shot here and there and kind of -- I had a really good feeling. This golf course sets up where 16, 17, 18 is where the crux of the movement comes, so I was really pleased to par 14, 15 and go into 16 tied. I've been playing the par 5s well.

"I know Maverick [McNealy] had been as well, but I wanted to at least not have to do anything nuts on the last three, but I needed to be close enough on those three to have the opportunity to go and something happen and fortunately was tied going into those and could just kind of play normal solid golf."

Fortinet Championship 2021 R4

McNealy, who held the lead heading into the weekend and was tied overnight, made three birdies on the front nine before making another at the 16th and closing with a double-bogey at the par-4 17th and an eagle at the par-8 18th for a 68 to finish second at 18-under.

"Yeah, that was fun," he said of his closing eagle. "I mean, good golf's more fun than bad golf, for sure. It was a great drive, great second shot and why not just make it, you know. Make sure Max knows that I was right there. But he played awesome and man, he came out of nowhere on the back nine.

"It was a great week. I learned a lot. I was really proud of my round today. Obviously it's an uncomfortable situation, but yesterday prepared me a lot for today and I was really, really proud of how I came out of my front nine.

Fortinet Championship 2021 R4

"I love the way I was feeling, I love the way I managed myself and I love the shots that I executed. It was one shot on 17 which, to be fair, if it gets through that tree I'm just dumping it to the back of the green, two-putting for par and I've got a chance for that eagle on 18. I wouldn't do anything over."

Chilean Mito Pereira came third at 16-under after carding a bogey-free 68.

"I'm just very happy with how I managed it today. Wasn't an easy day, greens started to get real firm, windy. The wind was going everywhere. So happy how I managed all the round, didn't make any bogeys. I'm real happy with the result."

Fortinet Championship 2021 R4

Australian Marc Leishman, who started the day T26 at 8-under, closed with a 65 for a share of fourth place at 15-under alongside American Talor Gooch who signed for a 68.

"Wherever I finish, to play golf like I have the last two days was really pleasing. Hasn't been the greatest year I would say. There's been patches of good stuff, third at the Travelers and top-5 at the Masters, I believe, but other than that it's been pretty lame. So good to put some good scores together, get a sniff again. It's nice to get in the hunt, get the juices flowing. I love that, that's what we do, that's why we do it."

Jim Knous who held a share of the lead overnight, made two birdies, a bogey and a triple-bogey at the par-4 14th to close with a 74 and finishes T11 at 12-under.
