Nacho Elvira started the day with a share of the eight-way tie for lead at the Genesis Championship and fired five birdies, a bogey and a double bogey at the par-4 3rd to close with a 2-under 69 and retain a share of the lead at 8-under.
“It was a grind to be fair, I started off a little bit shaky,” said the Spaniard. “It didn’t feel like I was hitting the ball bad, just hit one a little bit short on three which cost me a double.
“But I tried to stay patient because I know it’s a tough course, the birdies are not guaranteed here so I think I did a good job with that.”
Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg carded six birdies and two bogeys for a 67 to move to the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round.
“It was a good day, a good day for sure,” said Lindberg. “The weather has been very nice since we got here and I like the course.
“I’m not going to try to think too much about it. I’ve been playing well lately and have been playing well this week, and hopefully I can continue to play good golf tomorrow and we will see.”
England’s Andy Sullivan fired five birdies, four of them consecutively from the 15th, as well as two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 9th to move into a share of third place at 6-under.
Also tied in third place is compatriot Alex Fitzpatrick who started the day with a share of the overnight lead and made two birdies and two bogeys for a 71.
China’s Haotong Li who was also tied at the top overnight made four birdies and four bogeys for his 71 and share of third place while Japan’s Yuto Katsuragawa closed with a 70 for his having made four birdies and three bogeys.
