Adrien Saddier started the day one shot behind the lead and birdied the 2nd hole before making two bogeys to make the turn in 36. He fired five birdies on the back nine for a 4-under 66 to reach 14-under and win his maiden DP World Tour tile at the Italian Open on his 200th appearance.
“It’s great. It’s taken so much work to be able to do this. I’m just grateful,” said the Frenchman.
“I started the back nine really good and I just said ‘just stay in your own zone, just keep focused, make the putts”. And I did it.”
With this win Saddier takes one of the spots for the top two players, not already exempt, in the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush.
France’s Martin Couvra held the lead after 54 holes and closed with four birdies and three bogeys for a 69 to finish in second place at 12-under. He now tops the European Swing Ranking and will also head to Portrush in July.
Scotland’s Callum Hill shot a bogey-free 68 for a share of third place at 10-under alongside England’s Dan Bradbury who made a single bogey for a 67.
France’s Clément Sordet carded a 69 having made one bogey and one double bogey at the par-4 13th to round out the top-5 at 9-under alongside Germany’s Nicolai von Dellingshausen who made one bogey for a 65.
