South African Hennie du Plessis fired ten birdies, five of them consecutively from the 10th, and two bogeys to close with an 8-under 62 and move to the top of the Joburg Open leaderboard at 14-under.

Du Plessis, who finished T2 at last week’s Investec South African Open Championship, played 27 holes on Saturday following weather delays on Thursday and Friday.

“I hung in there,” said Du Plessis. “I got it going as well. Very pleased with the way I was striking it, the way I’m putting, especially when you have played 27 holes today. To come back for them 18 holes, it was nice.

“I’m going to stick to the same things, stick to my process, have a good warm-up and take it from there.

“I’m feeling good, no injuries, fit. I’m just happy to be back and in contention.”

Compatriot Casey Jarvis who is aiming for his third consecutive win this week (Kenya Magical Open, Investec South African Open Championship) made one bogey and carded a 64 for a share of second place at 12-under.

Three Englishmen are tied in second place alongside Jarvis, Alex Fitzpatrick stayed bogey-free for a 64, Dan Bradbury made an eagle at the par-4 4th and added five birdies and one bogey for his 64 while overnight leader Brandon Robinson Thompson signed for an even-par 70 having made four birdies and four bogeys.
