Playoff win for Brian Campbell

John Deere Classic R4

Brian Campbell wins John Deere Classic

Brian Campbell started the day tied in second place one shot behind the lead and fired six birdies and one double bogey at the par-4 15th for a 4-under 67 to reach 18-under at the John Deere Classic.

Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo made one bogey on Sunday and also closed with a 67 to enter a playoff with Campbell having matched his scores all four rounds.

Campbell parred the first extra hole at the 18th to win his second PGA Tour title in his 41st start at the age of 32 while Grillo recorded his seventh runner-up finish.

Campbell won his first title at the 2025 Mexico Open at VidantaWorld making him the sixth multiple winner this season (Rory McIlroy/3, Scottie Scheffler/3, Ryan Fox/2, Ben Griffin/2, Sepp Straka/2).

“After your first win I would say there is a lot of expectations that come about. Unfortunately I dealt with a lot of random sicknesses that hit me and pulled me out of a few tournaments I really wanted to play. Even more so, I just really had to trust what I had been doing before, and, man, now we’re here. It’s just wild.

“I’ve worked my entire life to be in this position, and unfortunately we had a couple years there where it wasn’t looking so good.

“You have to start thinking about am I going do something else. Maybe pro golf or this route is not going to work out. But it all — it really was all second stage Q-School about two, three years ago. I made like a quintuple bogey on a par-3 and I thought my career was over in that moment.

“That night just kind of had a self-talk with myself. Said, you know what, whatever happens is okay. Trust yourself. The next round I went out there and shot 8-under and got myself right back in there.

“I guess I was like, maybe golf is not over for me. That moment was when everything changed.”

This marks the second time he held T2 position after 54 holes and went on to win.

American Kevin Roy signed for a bogey-free 65 for a share of third place at 17-under, his third top-10 this season, alongside compatriot David Lipsky.

Lipsky eagled the par-5 17th, made four birdies and two bogeys and closed with a 68.

Six-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa of the USA tied for fifth place at 16-under, his first top-10 in his 16th start of the season.

Playing on a sponsor exemption, the No. 1-ranked player in the American World Amateur Golf Ranking Jackson Koivun (T11/-15) recorded his best finish on Tour in his sixth start (previous best: T48/2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational).

American defending champion Davis Thompson who held the overnigt lead made three birdies and four bogeys for a 72 and finished in T18 at 14-under.
