South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace capped her bogey-free round with a two-putt birdie for a 5-under 66 to take a one-shot lead in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol.
“I played very well today. Obviously I’m very happy. No bogeys, which is awesome.
“We kept it pretty simple. Most of the greens we went for the middle, didn’t really attack too many pins. Like I said, the putter worked, which was awesome. Hit my driver pretty straight, as well.
“I haven’t had the best season in Europe. Mainly because I didn’t practice hard enough if I have to be completely honest. I started practicing for ShopRite, that event, a lot more. I just spent a lot more time-out there, and I’m feeling super confident in my game.”
China’s Ruoning Yin and Xiyi Lin lie in second place at 4-under alongside two-time major winner Brooke Henderson of Canada.
Thailand’s Wichanee Meechair lies in fifth place at 3-under ahead of a group of six players at 2-under including Leona Maguire of Ireland.
Rose Zhang, who became the first player in 72 years to win an LPGA Tour event in her pro debut earlier this month at Liberty National, is in T12 at 1-under.
