The 11-time LPGA Tour winner pulls out of the third major of the season at Hazeltine National, with Spain’s Carolina Chacarra taking her place in the field.

Whan won’t rush things - LPGA events postponed

Lexi Thompson has withdrawn from this week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine National, tournament organisers confirmed on June 22. Spain’s Carolina Chacarra will take Thompson’s place in the field for the third LPGA major of the season.

The 31-year-old American is still dealing with the hip injury that forced her out of the Meijer LPGA Classic in Michigan last week. Thompson, an 11-time LPGA Tour winner and the 2014 Chevron Championship champion, had been a consistent performer at this event in recent years, tying for 12th in 2025 and finishing ninth in 2024.

Thompson’s Own Words

In an Instagram post on June 18, Thompson explained the severity of the problem after her Meijer withdrawal.

“Unfortunately, the pain in my hip reached a point where I knew I wasn’t able to compete,” Thompson said. “As difficult as it was, withdrawing before the tournament began was the only decision I could make.”

She said she was heading home to focus on healing and getting her body where it needed to be.

A Stop-Start 2026 Season

Thompson announced last year that she would step away from a full-time LPGA schedule, and her 2026 campaign has reflected that shift. She has made just six starts this season, with a tie for 12th at the Chevron Championship standing as her best result.

The hip issue continues a frustrating stretch. Earlier this month, Thompson failed to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open, missing the championship for the first time since 2007 and ending a run of 19 consecutive appearances. Each withdrawal now carries added weight given how selectively she has chosen her starts.

No timeline has been given for her return.

Hazeltine Field

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship goes ahead without one of its most recognisable names. The field at Hazeltine remains strong. World number one Nelly Korda arrives as the clear favourite after winning four LPGA titles in 2026, including back-to-back major victories at the Chevron Championship and U.S. Women’s Open. Defending champion Minjee Lee is also among the contenders.

England’s Lottie Woad will be looking to rebound after a painful final-hole miss at the Meijer LPGA Classic. The 22-year-old held a one-shot lead on the 18th tee on Sunday but missed a three-foot par putt that would have forced a playoff, ultimately losing to Japan’s Miyu Yamashita.
