South African Bryce Easton fired five birdies and a bogey at the par-4 14th to take a four-shot lead with one hole left when play was suspended due to darkness after another windy day at the Mallorca Golf Open.

“I played the front nine lovely, managed to hang in. Tough coming in at the end there. Obviously getting dark. Overall, very happy with how today went, happy with where I am.

“There were a lot of cross winds that were – is it helping a fraction or hurting a fraction? – it’s one of those where you just don’t quite know. Small greens, small targets, so it’s definitely a factor. It was a tricky day.”

Easton has had several top-10 results on the European Tour but has never held full playing privileges. He is currently 195th in the rankings and fighting to retain his card.

Spain’s Alvaro Quiros (69), Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez (67) and Jorge Campillo (69) share second place at 7-under with Winther who struggled on Friday and made three birdies, two bogeys and a triple bogey at the par-4 16th to close with a 71.

England’s Richard Mansell carded the lowest round of the day, a bogey-free 64, for a share of fourth place at 6-under alongside fellow Englishman Laurie Canter (66), Germany’s Matti Schmid (70), Canada’s Aaron Cockerill (68), France’s Jean-Baptiste Gonnet (67) as well as Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg (68) and Niklas Lemke who has one hole left to play and is currently 1-over for the day.
