How does the Race to Dubai work?
It is a points-based ranking for DP World Tour members that runs across the entire season. Players earn Race to Dubai Ranking Points at every counting event, and whoever has the most at the end of the season is crowned the tour’s Number One.
The schedule features a minimum of 42 tournaments in a minimum of 25 countries. The DP World Tour says the total prize fund of US$157.5 million outside the Major Championships is a record.
What are the three phases of the season?
- The Global Swings: five regional swings that open the season and showcase the tour’s different cultures and courses.
- The Back 9: the run-in, where Race to Dubai Ranking Points increase and players fight to qualify for the Play-Offs.
- The DP World Tour Play-Offs: the final sprint in November, with the top 70 players entering the Abu Dhabi Championship, and the top 50 available players progressing to the DP World Tour Championship.
How many players qualify for the DP World Tour Play-Offs?
Seventy. The rest of the field drops away after the Back 9, and those who remain play two Rolex Series events in the Middle East: the Abu Dhabi Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
Between them, the two events carry 21,000 points. That is more than four Back 9 events combined. A player sitting a few thousand points back is very much still in the race.
When and where is the DP World Tour Championship 2026?
The finale is currently scheduled for November 12 to 15 on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
What is the Rolex Series?
The Rolex Series is the DP World Tour’s premium category of events. It was launched in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of Rolex’s partnership with the tour. Rolex Series events carry 8,000 points during the regular season, and both Play-Off events belong to the series.
What does the Race to Dubai winner receive?
The Harry Vardon Trophy and the title of DP World Tour Number One, still widely known as European Number One.
